TLMR Homes Client Stories
From Kansas to Fort Collins
Over six months and across two states, these buyers built a relocation plan around the
reason for their move: creating a home near their children and grandchildren.
At a Glance
A couple living in Kansas was referred to TLMR by an out-of-state REALTOR®. They planned to move to
Fort Collins to be closer to their children and grandchildren, but they had never visited the city and
wanted time to decide whom they trusted to guide the move.
The relationship began by Zoom and continued for approximately six months. Much of the search
happened from a distance while the buyers managed life and the eventual sale of their Kansas home.
TLMR Homes provided local context, remote showings, professional referrals, contract guidance, and
remodeling coordination.
The Search Began Before the First Showing
Before touring a home, the buyers interviewed us by Zoom. We answered their questions and agreed
to meet for coffee when they visited Colorado. That conversation gave them space to evaluate the
relationship first.
It also helped us understand what the move needed to accomplish. The buyers wanted proximity to
family while learning an unfamiliar city, refining their priorities, and coordinating decisions from
Kansas.
A Six Month Relocation From a Distance
Over roughly six months, we stayed in contact as the buyers clarified their timing, budget, location
preferences, and plans. When they could not travel, FaceTime showings helped them see properties
and continue learning the market.
Video kept the search moving, but the buyers also needed honest observations about condition,
layout, setting, and tradeoffs that can be difficult to judge through a screen.
How TLMR Supported the Move
We treated the purchase, the move from Kansas, and the work needed in Colorado as one connected
transition.
That included:
• Maintaining contact over time. We stayed connected as the buyers refined their priorities and
timeline.
• Showing homes remotely. FaceTime tours helped the buyers decide which homes deserved
closer consideration.
• Keeping the purpose of the move visible. We evaluated homes in relation to the life they were
creating, including distance to family.
• Offering choices among local professionals. We provided lender referrals, and the buyers
selected the loan officer who felt right to them.
• Helping with the Kansas side. We connected the buyers with REALTORS® in Kansas who could
assist with the sale of their existing home.
• Building a Colorado service network. We provided referrals for movers, handyman work, stone
work, flooring, painting, and other improvements.
• Guiding the transaction and renovation. We negotiated inspection issues and helped coordinate
substantial remodeling before the move.
How Can Buyers Evaluate a Home From Another State
A useful remote showing should do more than provide a quick video tour. Buyers need clear views of
room flow, condition, exterior features, and surrounding context. They also need someone willing to
point out concerns, not simply hold up a phone.
Remote tours can narrow the field. When possible, consequential choices should still be revisited in
person so buyers can experience what a camera cannot fully convey.
Finding the Right Home Near Family
The buyers found a charming Fort Collins home approximately ten minutes from their children and
grandchildren. After inspection negotiations and closing, substantial remodeling was completed
before they made the move from Kansas.
Instead of arriving in a new state and beginning a major round of contractor calls, they moved into a
home already prepared for their next chapter.
The Outcome
The couple now lives in Colorado near the family they came to be close to. Their relocation connected
the home search, financing, Kansas sale, inspection decisions, remodeling, and moving timeline
around one clear goal.
By the time they unpacked, they had a home, a local network, and the everyday closeness that had
motivated the move.
What Other Relocation Buyers Can Learn
Relocating to an unfamiliar city involves more than finding a house. The strongest plan connects the
home search with the reason for moving, the sale or transition in the current location, and the work
required after closing.
• Begin the relationship early. A several-month timeline creates room to learn the market, refine
priorities, and build trust before decisions become urgent.
• Use video tours intentionally. Remote showings can save travel and keep the search active, but
they should include candid observations and detailed views.
• Choose professionals based on fit. Interview lenders and other service providers, then select the
people whose communication and guidance support your decision-making.
• Plan beyond closing. Moving, contractors, repairs, utilities, and timing can be evaluated
alongside the purchase rather than left until the keys are delivered.
• Keep the reason for moving at the center. The right home is the one that supports the life the
relocation is intended to create.
A Relocation Planned Around Real Life
A successful relocation should help buyers feel informed, supported, and connected before they ever
unpack a box. For these clients, every step between Kansas and their Fort Collins front door served
the same purpose: bringing them closer to family.
If you are relocating to Northern Colorado, Teresa Lomax and Marie Raines can help you learn the
market, tour homes from a distance, compare local resources, and coordinate the practical details of
the move.
